that is that and this is this, try making the the fades between the layers of depth more believiable, perhaps by creating a defininite difference between how seperate layers lie next to each other...kinda like looking at a photo, the background might be fuzzy, mid ground a little clearer, forground sharp, you have allready started to do this.....then throw in an element that crosses the sharp borders of all these elements, something that breaks the borders....like a flash of light reflected off of an eye, or a moth that is right up front, it brings the focus to a point, which makes the mind believe the background.
